What's up, everyone! I originally posted this question in the general discussion thread but I think it goes here? Idk, anyway I just got my first Vette (40k miles) last week and yesterday was my second day actually getting to drive it. I noticed that when I’m in second or third gear going around 2000-2500 RPMs and I let off the gas with the gear still engaged about a second later I hear a clunk noise. I believe it’s coming from the center to the back of the car. However, when I get on the gas and I'm above 3500 then let off I don’t hear it. Does this have anything to do with the fact that the car makes me skip 2/3 and go to 4th at lower RPMs? I don't hear it in 4th at lower RPMs. Thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated!
It's hard for me to see how the skip shift mechanism could cause a clunk sound when letting off the gas in second or third gear, but you never know. There are various means to eliminate the skip shift, so you could try that. It seems more likely that there is some kind of mechanical problem in the transmission, or possibly even the differential.
It's not the skip shift. I'd start by checking my axle nuts.
Thank you for the replies! It almost sounds like something is disengaging like a slight clunk/click. If the axle nuts were loose wouldn't that happen in all gears? I will check them out for sure and thank you for the advice but I'm just curious how that would only cause the noise in lower gears? Also, it's not instant it takes a second after I let off the gas to hear it and it only happens 2 out of 4 times.
