Default Question about used LG headers

I bought used LG headers (didn't come with X pipe). I was going to install them, but two tuning shops warned me that they are very tuff on fitment. One guy had to cut plastic out of the car to get them into place. The guy who sold them to me showed a dent he made with a hammer on one of the tubes so the headers could clear the steering shaft.

Are these worth keeping, or should I try a different brand? Worst case scenario, I could try, but I'd rather not take the car apart if I don't have to. Is there an after market x pipe that would fit for them, or should I have a shop cut the stock H pipe, and I can clamp them on?

Or should I spend the money for American Racing..

Thanks.

LG headers are very good performing. I've never tried to mount them on any Vette. But, I'd sure give them a shot before taking someone else's opinion, including mine! As for a dented header pipe, a small clearance dent, though not cosmetically nice, has little to no effect on flow. Plus, not many people crawl around trying to inspect Vette header pipes for dents!! You won't see it even if you need to do it. There are also other ways to mount pipes, without resorting to a BFH!! You may find you are more skilled, and are certainly more careful, than the knuckle daggers at the performance shop. Give mounting the pipes a shot!! My .02.......

If they are in pretty good shape I would use them. LG makes some good headers, although fitment may not always be spot on. If it were me I’d throw em on and If they fit good call LG and tell them you need an X pipe for your application, They will have the matching X pipe

My passenger side fit ok (after cutting away some overhanging tin), the drivers side I had to dent a bit and make a heat shield by the frame but worked fine.

Wow! LG must have really went downhill in their quality. I installed their long tube headers on my Vette about 3 years ago using jack stands. I think it was 24 inches from the floor to the bottom of the rocker panels.

The fit was perfect. I didn't have to remove anything to get them in. I did remove the spark plugs just in case I bumped them during installation.

I have seen a few threads on this forum saying that LG’s quality has gone downhill. If they were actually installed on someone else’s car they should be able to slide in yours.

I've had LG Streets on my '08 for at least 10 years without issues. Since the ones you bought and Todds427 have a dent in one pipe, I'd suspect they were made around the same time and his still work fine. They're good headers, so go for it.

In regards to lowering quality (poor fitment) by LG, I just bought and installed a set of their street headers and catted x-pipe around a month ago. Fitment was great, I didn't have any issues with fitment at all, they fit right in. Maybe I got lucky though.

Thank y'all very much for the feedback! I will give them a shot- I am gonna call the LG guy to see if he sells X pipe's as well- If not i'll try and use the stock H pipe. Are you able to cut and use the factory H pipe with exhaust clamps?

What did y'all do for a tune? I've heard the CEL comes on afterwards. Would prefer a cheaper option, as I am going to do a cam later on and will get a proper tune for that

You might get away without a tune for awhile, but you'll be leaner at WOT. Honestly, a cam and tune would do a lot more for you than just the headers alone. Ideally, you should try to do both at the same time, then get the tune. What C6 do you have? If you're doing this to a C6 Z06, I'd be concerned about the WOT lean condition. My .02....

If you’re doing headers, regardless of catted or off-road, the car needs to be tuned. As for the midsection see if LG has something in stock. If they don’t you could bring it to a good exhaust shop, show up with a universal 2.5” or 3” z pipe and have them finish it off. Don’t overthink the exhaust, just open it up and it’ll perform as long as you get a tune. On my C5 headers and tune woke the car up. On my C6 headers and tune made me say holy sh*t.
