I am installing an LS-9 in my 1963 Corvette and am finding it difficult to find space for the oil tank. I would like to go wet sump. The car is pretty low to the ground and the previous LS-6 (small block) that was in the car when I purchased it had the C6 Bat Wing oil pan. Can I use the Batwing oil pan on the LS-9 and is there any other modifications necessary to make this work other than modifying the oil pickup? Also does the batwing have a dip stick?
You will need a LS3 front cover, oil pump, crank gear, cover gasket, front seal, maybe a balancer, and a balancer spacer. I don't know if the batwing pan will fit the chassis. Batwing was a C5 oil pan. You will need to drill the block for the dipstick tube. This may help:
12600326 front cover
11588712 bolt, cam sensor & bracket mtg- need 2
12633904 front cover gskt
12612350 oil pan gskt
12585673 front seal
12580035 water pump gskt- need 2
12603843 diamond washer
11570163 balancer bolt
12586665 oil pump
sdls7spcr scoggin dickey pump spacer
12556582 crank gear
12627501 cam sensor harness- jumper
pickup tube and 0-ring- I don't know the part number, This would be based off of the pan used, same for the windage tray and dipstick & indicator.
The oil temp sensor is mounted in the dry sump tank. You'll need a C5 block that is above the oil filter unless you plan on using an oil cooler, then whatever adapter block you choose, probably has a port for the oil temp sensor. I strongly suggest going to improvedracing.com and see what windage tray/crank scraper/oil pan baffle they offer.
