Default Which Brand Radiator?

Hello,

I have a 2005 C6 That I'm installing a A&A Supercharger. Instructions state to cut/modify the top of the tank to clear the piping to/from the intercooler. I feel the better route is to invest in a better radiator made specifically for this application.

I see Dewitts made them for A&A somtime back but now A&A gets them from Griffen. With about a $200 or so difference in price is there a real difference in performance between the Griffen and the Dewitts? Pro's and Con's?

I want somthing that will keep the Temps Stable on the Hottest of California Days.

Your input is appreciated.

You don't cut the tank. There is no tank on the top of the radiator. You just trim the sides off the aluminum channel along the top.

I'm personally going with a short DeWitts, but I'm in the midwest.

Thank You for clarifying. What made you decide the Dewitt’s over the Griffen from A&A?

Dewitts is a work of art compared to oem.
Not cheap by any means when paired with the brushless fan. But resolved my cooling issues 100% on the FI car.

I just hadn't seen anyone say anything bad about the quality of the dewitts.

Was a post a while back about one leaking, but think that was self induced with a blown head gasket/S/C that pressurized the system to much in the first place to cause the leak.

I've had a DeWitts on my car since 2006. Never any problem, and you'd never know it's there, other than the temp reduction.....

I have a DeWitts on my 2011 GS with E-force. Car runs cool all the time.

And you could get the DeWitts short radiator that has both the transmission oil cooler in the passenger side end-tank and the engine oil cooler in the driver's side end-tank. All you would need is the stock GM oil cooler lines which I think DeWitts also sells. Its a really good upgrade especially for a FI car.

The OP of the post Dano is referring to never got back to the forum to let us know of the resolution or the cause of the leak.

Is that fan and shroud also from Dewitts? Plug and play with OEM PWM controller?

The only problem I had with a Dewitts radiator was that it ran too cool with a 160* t'stat. And that was with a supercharger heat exchanger hanging in front of the radiator. I could idle it in Tx summer heat with the a/c blowing cold. Never got much over 205. At cruise, more like175-180 in the summer and 165 when it was cool out. No need for any fan shenanigans. My fans were set to ramp up quicker....probably totally unnecessary.

Yeh it comes sealed together.
Here's the link for the fan/shroud and how it's wired-in.

This would not be for a supercharger because of the height. I used a Mishimoto radiator and the Dewitts Brushless with their brushless composite shroud. Note the fan needs to be moved over to passenger side to miss the ABS box.

You have/had a great setup there. Cooling system working great, and thermostat controlling the temp, as it should. Probably a 170°, or 174° T-stat would have been perfect. I know LPE sells the 174°T-stat, but they're around $35, last I checked....

Yup, my previous GS was supercharged. Speaking of high dollar thermostat, you may not need a $35 dollar one, but you don't want a cheap one either. With the previous GS, I started with a cheapo Mr Gasket 160* stat. On a cool day, the first time the stat would open up, I'd get a cooling system warning and it would go into limp mode. I surmised that the stat opened too early or maybe too much fooling the PCM into thinking the temp gauge wasn't working. Ended up buying, you guessed it, a higher dollar LPE 160* stat. End of problem.

My current heads/cam C6 has the stock radiator with a 180* stat. I wish I would have added a Dewitts radiator when it was all apart for the engine work. May still do it because it can get over 200 degrees in hot weather. No way would I let it idle standing still with the A/C on. I'm sure it's not hurting anything but power, but, but, but power....
