Elite Engineering frame rails for single point jacking
Hello. I think if I install these frame rails along my frame between the two jacking locations on my C6, I should be able to lift one side of the front and rear of the car with a single floor jack placed about halfway along the length of the frame rail. At the track this would be easier if I only had to lift it once per side to work on front and rear brakes, etc. Does anybody see a problem with this? Thanks.
I don't thnk its designed or capable of supporting the weight from in between the jacking post areas. I think it would certainly bend/collapse and damage the rockers if you lift in the middle.
Having said that, if you jack the car high enough from a jacking post, both ends will come off the ground, but the car will rock...so maybe ok for a quick tire change, but it should have a supporting jack stand for safety anyway
Bottom line, no.
Thanks. I see your point. I guess I wasn't sure if the rails were flush along the length of the rail or if there was a gap. If there was any gap, I'm sure they would bend. If they were touching along the entire length, I might think it would be ok to jack from the middle as the frame of the car should be as strong as the jacking points since it's a full frame car. Does anyone have these Elite rails?
I have the aluminum EE frame rails. They do contact the frame along their entire length. I don't see a problem with doing what you are saying, jacking one side of the car in the middle. Should work fine. I would just get or make out of a hockey puck a rubber pad with a cuttout in the middle to acomodate the width of the frame rail. Just so there is no possibility of the jack sliding to either side of the rail.
