Default C6 Engine Mounts - stock vs poly vs solid, give your input

C6 Engine Mounts,
We seem to have plenty to choose from; stock rubber fluid filled, aftermarket polyurethane and aftermarket solid.

Stock OEM- Cost $ is low, rubber and fluid fill gives the least amount of vibrations, prone to leakage and possibly early wearing if the car is used with lots of spirited driving.

Polyurethane - Cost $$ is about double to triple that of stock mounts, more vibration can be felt, up and to a bang felt with hard launches, may hear a squeak from the urethane, no leaks of fluid as there isn't any, some manufacturers have reduced noise and vibration available, can handle more spirited driving without being destroyed as soon as stock.

Solid - Cost $$$, up to 3x or more than stock mounts, no rubber, polyurethane or fluid to worry about, it will give the harshest vibration, least amount of engine movement, improved launches.

Engine and trans mounts installed at the same time.

Solid puts all the vibration of the motor and trans to the frame, so a lot of vibration in the car.

OEMs are rubber/fluid filled, so you losing a lot of torque as the engine and drive line twists on the frame, plus you have the leaking problems.

As for mounts, Hinson poly mounts have about the needed amount of give so does not feel like your running solid mounts as a whole, while still solid enough in the end for most race applications.

I installed AMT Motorsports motor mounts and they work great. Much better than stock and not as harsh as solid.

I replaced my stock mounts during a drivetrain overhaul after 12 years and ~150K miles. They were a little cracked but had not leaked.

Just to offer another view - I ran the AMT short versions and then removed them; way too much NVH in the cabin. I run the Hinson's now.

How much better were the Hinsons as far as NVH? Very noticeable difference in your opinion or more of a slight difference? Thanks

Pretty much stock NVH. Same bolted feel to shifts and pullaways as AMT.

Not as nicely made as the AMT for sure and they do need heatshielding to stop them melting with headers.

So you didn't notice much if any difference going from AMT? I'm sorry, just want to make sure I understand what you're saying.

AMT was way too much vibration and noise on my application (468, heads, cams, etc).

Hinson was back to stock for noise and vibration but also similar to AMT for 'directness', both better than stock for shifting and launch.

Sounds to me like he is saying the AMT mounts had a bit more NVH than the Hinson mounts and that the Hinson mounts are very close to stock.

I have the Hinson short mounts and there is more vibration at idle but its not bad at all. Maybe because the body of the car is fiberglass composite, it absorbs more of the vibration. I had tried a set of Hinson mounts in my 2006 GTO. Installed them, took a spin around the block, and the put the stock motor mounts right back in. Way too much vibration with the Hinson's but the GTO is a full metal body car.

I've run the solid Pfadt engine and trans mounts for years, and have 0 complaints. The car is a weekend warrior/canyon carver, but vibration has never been an issue for me. Truth be told, I barely noticed when I switched over from the blown out factory mounts
