Default Oil Brand Recommendations

I have about 5,000 miles on the car since the last oil change. This will be the first oil change on this car that I will do.....I know that it needs 5-30 oil ( not synthetic ) but I am looking for opinions on what brand of oil and filter I should use. I know the AC Delco filter is a PF48E but is there a better one to use and is one brand of oil really superior to another.

Amsoil signature series 5-30 synthetic is what I use, and a wix or Napa gold filter. This is what the performance shop recommended after cam install and other engine work. I know the oil is expensive but I’m retired and lucky to put 3000 miles a year on the car, so I’m only doing oil changes once a year.

Mobil 1 is a safe bet. Although there are many high quality synthetics out there. NAPA filters are highly rated.

You should definitely be using a "Full Synthetic" 5w30 for your Corvette. Any brand name that indicates that it meets or exceeds the Dexos rating will be acceptable. That is the manufacturers recommendation.

Hope you enjoy your Vette for years to come.

The PF48E has some plastic parts inside.

If you want a better quality ACDelco engine oil filter, get the ACDelco UPF48R. This is the standard filter for the Z06 .(better construction, no plastic parts, and higher burst pressure).

WOW!!! That's a new one on me!! I can honestly say I've not met anyone in years who doesn't run synthetic oil. Why would anyone NOT run synthetic oil???!! It's even listed on the oil fill cap! I run it in my mower and snowblower!! The only time I've ever heard people recommend not running synthetic oil is during the first 500-1,000 miles after a rebuild, during break-in. Some guys recommend non detergent dino oil for break in. But I've never heard anyone say don't run synthetic oil, other than for the aforementioned break-in period. What manual do you have that recommends not using synthetic oil?!? My C5 owners manual says to use it. VERY interested to hear more from you about this........

Umm what? Your manual says to not use synthetic oil??!
you realize the factory fill in your car was Mobil1 synthetic oil, right?
Amsoil signature series, Mobil1, Pennzoil Platinum, etc… take your pick

Yup, it's hard to buy any bad brand synthetic today. If a bad brand exists, it's still better than dino oil from 30 years ago, and we all did pretty good with that, too.....

Whatever oil one uses, it's of utmost importance to change the oil & filter at regular intervals; 5,000 or 6,000 miles max. Sooner if you're using your Vette as an Uber

That's my dilemma too ... I put only 2,000 miles a year on my C6, so I change the engine oil once a year ... But it really bothers me to dump out the Mobil 1 synthetic oil that has only 2,000 miles on it.

Such a waste of money on oil that has a hell of a lot more life in it past 2,000 easy miles !

Under [normal] driving conditions, a quality full-synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 should give excellent lubrication and overall protection to the engine for at least 8,000 miles.
