I apologize if my C4 experience doesn't apply but I cut the top out of a cheap pair of valve covers and installed those. It made it very easy to locate any problems because very little oil was lost with just the tops cut off. Is that still done?

Damn that sounds like an expensive venture! Is your car cammed? If so they all sound like sawing machines I wouldn’t worry about it. Mine makes nearly 800rw and no issues. If it ain’t broken don’t fix it ya know.

yh I have a cam but never had the noise after I did the install started happening couple months later doesn't really sound normal it's like a really loud bad lifter thats why i put new ones in but didnt fix it 🤦‍♂️. Now i have a p0206 code for my id 1050x injector some mechanic took a look at it to he said it could be that so I'm going to remove the injector and flow and test it to see if it's bad and replace it and see where it goes from there 🤷

Take it to someone who knows what they’re doing. You had rod bearings changed?

Stop wasting money and take it to a competent shop. Chances are it’s nothing. Like I said once a cam and headers are installed they get noisy.

Yeah def sounds lifter related. As previously mentioned pull your valve cover off and check for loose/broke rocker or broke valve spring. You would likely have misfire codes if it were one of the two.

Chiming in with a different video of ticking. I have a new-to-me but also kind of new 2012 GS that i've driven from 2800miles to its current 5300miles. Over the last 400 or so miles i've noticed this ticking noise. It could have always been there but now that I've heard it, I can't "un-hear" it. Does this fall into the realm of normal noise or something to be concerned about? I've read on one of the threads that sounding like a sewing machine is normal (which this does to me)? Any input appreciated!

Yes they definitely do sound like sewing machines and most tick or tap to a certain degree. Mine sounded just like yours when mine was bone stock but worse. To me, yours sounds normal… mine had the same tick but was more noticeable than yours and ticked like this at idle.

Thanks for the response and video! I brought it into the shop today and we changed the oil, checked for metal/sheen and installed a drain plug with a magnet to catch anything that happens in the future. Nothing concerning in the oil today but going to check it again in a 1000miles and just keep an eye on it.

Yea something to keep an eye on, could be a lifter starting to go. Not a bad idea also to cut open the oil filter and check it out. A lot of times you may have metal shavings in the filter but not in the drain pan. I’m sure it’s just typical LS valvetrain noise tho

Found this thread since after track day yesterday, car sounded normal. Drove home 40 miles and as soon as I opened the door I heard a loud tapping or ticking sound which I had never heard before. My stepson listened over the phone and talked about lifter noise, or possibly a bad injector. Of course I have no mechanical ability to do any further diagnosis so have a hard decision of a high priced dealer or searching for an independent mechanic. 2013 base coupe, 51K, always Mobil 1, extra quart per manual for track days.

I would not take it to a dealership. Find a decent shop and let them at least pull the valve cover off and check your rockers and valve springs. Maybe you just have a loose rocker, or even something more simple such as a loose spark plug.
