Default cold air intakes

Is it worth $500 for a CAI for a 2011 A6 Grand Sport? What performance gains can I expect if any? What brands/model is recommended? thanks!

Exactly, funny to hear some corvette owners got the intake called the snake charmer, May even throw a code for lean bank 1 and 2 , and need to be tuned out.

Your $500 would be better spent on cosmetic updates/upgrades.

A real CAI channels air from outside the engine compartment directly into the throttle body. It works best if the intake opening faces the front of the car, since there is a pressure gain at higher speeds. You can expect about .2 second quicker and 2 mph faster in the 1/4 mile. If it's your only mod, you'll never notice the difference if you never race and get a timeslip. There are some downsides, as in possible water ingestion, depending on the brand/design. There are probably 500+ threads about this subject, so use the search feature to see what works for you. No one can determine worth in dollars, except the buyer. Vararam is the only one I'd buy.

^^^ This. Funny how people always say no gains. I always say you likely won't feel the power difference unless you spend a lot of time at WOT and at speeds above 100mph. You also may not gain any hp on the dyno. BUT the car will be a couple tenths quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile. Easy way to look at it is if you raced your friends car and you went door to door, just an intake will put you 2-3 cars ahead of your buddy. The first mod I did to my car was headers/tune, left the stock intake because I was debating whether or not I wanted to run a vararam in south florida where it monsoons regularly. I will be adding one soon and have the car retuned

For what it's worth...the GS & Z06 scoop on the top of the bumper cover is open and allows cooler outside air into the area directly servicing the stock air intake. So in effect, the stock system on these cars is a CAI. Not a RAM air system, but does allow CAI.

Things you may notice with an aftermarket A.I... A cool non-stock look, less cash in hand, thrown codes, frustration, and all types of comments from other Vette owners. Oh, and in some states not being able to pass a smog inspection.

It matters to some folks. Some don't have to pass the scrutiny that others do come inspection time. I'm glad I added the Veraram. I'd do it again. I don't drag race much any more. That doesn't mean I can't take pride in having an optimized setup....just in case I get the itch
