Default Head stud nut diameter

I would like to know the outside diameter of a 8 mm and half inch head stud nuts.

I would be most appreciative if someone could measure them for me.

Thanks!

Would bet by this time " NOTHING " on the car is measured in SAE/inch.

Thanks for posting the table @HK770 ! It is a good start

I am actually looking for measurements of ARP stud nuts as I will be using them for my build. They may differ from bolt heads or not be a standard size.

1/2" studs are rather common for FI builds and pretty much universal in billet blocks.

Granted, the diameter of the nut is not a dimension that one is usually concerned with.

The heads I have chosen for my build have clearance holes for 1/2" studs. The block I am using is threaded for 8 mm studs. The nuts for 8 mm studs are smaller than those for 1/2" studs so there will be less contact area under the nut for an 8 mm stud vs that for a 1/2" stud. This will result in more force per SqIn applied to the cylinder head if they are both torqued to the same force. I am looking to calculate the differance in force.

Mostly it is an intellectual exercise and I will have the block tapped for 1/2" studs but as an engineer (although electrical) these sort of things interest me.

It seems like you need the size of the ARP washers. They publish the ODs in their installation instructions.

Thank you for the reply @torquetube .

I found several sets of instructions online but no mention of washer size.

I sent a message to ARP from their site.

I called Dart yesterday and found out the fastener holes in the heads are sized for 7/16ths studs. Glad I asked.

The instructions for the ARP head stud kit 234-4319, for example, list the washer ODs on the second page:

I finally called Dart. Turns out the bolt holes are completely standard and there is nothing for me to figure out.

That problem solved, on to the next one. Exhaust porting.
