I just picked up a Windows 10 Laptop to go with a VXDIAG and not sure that I want a non wifi version or the wifi version. I believe the wifi version can be used with a cable but not sure of any issues with the wifi. I have an Autel blue tooth scanner that I've found handy not having a cable in the way but it's likely that I'll be sitting in the car with the VXDIAG when being used. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated.
Thanks
Jim
I've used a Nano for a while now, usually with my laptop on the bench connected to the Nano with a nice long USB cable. Works like a champ. Just make sure to get a good cable, don't go cheap.
My initial thought: VCX Nano is a big enough pain in the *** without throwing WiFi into the mix. Stick with the USB version.
But on second thought: The WiFi verson is only $10 more and may actually work. Why not get it? It would be simpler with no 10' cable to deal with. If it doesn't work, it will still connect with the USB cable.
So, I would say get the WiFi version. Just my $0.02, others may disagree.
How does the wifi version work? Does it require a router nearby for connection on a LAN (infrastructure mode)? Or does it make a direct connection between the VXDIAG device and your laptop (Ad Hoc mode or Direct mode)?

Thanks for the reply. I ordered the USB version. I gave it some thought, based on what I've read the PIA to get everything working adding wifi to the mix may make me go Elvis on the thing .
Actually, it's not that bad, just a little tedious at times. The VX Diag website has the software and instructions, you just have to dig a little because some of the instructions are simply wrong. There is also a help section which is really pretty good. I bought mine straight from VX Diag, setup an account, joined the chat, etc. and have had good ongoing service. I recommend doing that vs buying from Amazon, eBay, wherever. The Nano is a good scan tool at a very reasonable price. Definitely worth the bit of drama to setup

Was it this site? This is what I thought was the VXDIAG website and ordered from here. I'll check out the forum thanks.
Have both, and if the car is not in ACC mode, or Run mode, no power to the nano and will not connect. Hence if you turn the car off, connection drops out, and you have to either restart the program, or in some cases, reboot the laptop instead.
So go with the USB cable version that is getting it power from the laptop always, and save the $10 to replace the oem cable that comes with it, with a better one.

Thanks for the link, I bought the USB version. I've been reading a lot of posts about loading the software and not sure what I need and where to obtain it and a little confused. I'm waiting for my Nano to be delivered and in the mean time I'm continuing to read everything I can. I've read some of your posts helping others with loading Tech2win and GDS2 on a windows 10 64 bit laptop and hope I can do the same.
