Default Clutch, Flywheel, and Headers.

Hi everyone,

So I have an 05’ base, and the clutch kit I bought from Advance Auto parts seems to be defective.

So I’m going to return it and that means I have to open up the car again, but this time I’m thinking lightweight flywheel, and headers since they’re right there.

I have a few questions though, like what’s the best flywheel brand that will work with a LS7 Clutch? Should I get a different clutch that’s lighter to work with the lightweight flywheel?
And what’s a good brand that I should get when looking for headers?

Im making stock power, and I’m not looking for anything too top-notch.

Thank you!

With headers, you will get what you pay for on fitment. I recommend Kooks headers, the fitment is right and you don't have to worry about burning clutch line, wires, etc like you do with other brands. They also don't hang low like a couple other brands. Kooks also offers a catalytic convertor that is EPA certified. I have these headers and cats on my car and I love them. My car is lowered quite a bit and I don't have clearance issues

I would stick with a stock LS7 Clutch and flywheel. Replace the slave and pilot bearings at the same time. The LUK brand LS7 clutch kit from RockAuto is a great bargain and it is the OEM LS7 clutch. Upgrade the slave bearing support to a billet one. Also, make sure to measure for correct slave cylinder spacing. Tick Performance has a shim kit for this.

For headers, yes, Kooks is the way to go. Perfect fitment and quality.

I personally wouldn't install a lightweight flywheel in a street application. I have heard too many reports of difficulty starting from a dead stop due to the engine stumbling.

I’ve had lightweight flywheels in all of my sports cars since the mid-80s. Currently, I’m running an RPS BC2 carbon setup on my (LS3) Miata. I daily drive the car with no issues. I wouldn’t recommend it if you live in San Francisco, but barring that, it’s not that big a deal.

JMHO.
