Default Engine TDC

Swapped out cam and added new Rollmaster timing chain and gear set. Was checking pushrod length and noticed at TDC the lifter on #1 is about .050 higher than it is after rotating the crank until I feel the lowest point of lift on the intake lifter… is this normal? Here is a pic of my cam/crank gear alignment…

how are you verifying TDC? The compression stroke and the exhaust stroke are different, so you need to know which TDC you are comparing.

On a Gen 1 small block , #6 cylinder is at TDC firing position when the timing marks are aligned as in your pic .

Rotated crank until felt compression on cylinder 1 and continued until piston was at top of stroke… marks on gears were aligned.

Makes sense… this is an LS3 and #6 was the one that was full deflection down with the timing marks aligned on the compression stroke and took my measurements. Rotated crank until I had lowest point on intake cylinder #1 and it matched the measurement for #6 so assume I am good.
