2005 base. Installing the new redesigned high pressure hose for power steering. I cannot get the large 18mm brass nut to catch the threads into the power steering Column collar ( not sure if that’s what it’s called..the thing down by the drivers front tire).
the line next it is rigid and mates to a soft hose with these 2 metal bands. These metal bands have raised parts that are just in the way to not allow the new high pressure line to go in at a straight line, and is cocking the brass nut threads just enough.
Does anyone know what I am talking about, and if so have you experienced this?
Or am I doing something wrong with the routing of the new line?

Can you loosen that fitting on the rigid line on the left a little? Then, rotate that rigid line a little ways so that your other line clears those ear clamps. Then thread your new fitting in and then tighten the other one that you loosened earlier.
Damn, so obvious, I will try that in the morning. It has been a long day!
I hate to go loosening stuff up, since home plumbing is my nemesis.. but we shall see!
Well, loosening the other line but slightly allowed me the room for the new high pressure line, but the new brass nut simply will not catch threads. Yanked it out, later it up against the old one, threads line up perfectly, look to start the same place.
The new nut threads are not stripped. I got the old nut on the old line threaded in. No problem.
I am going nuts here. Any ideas?? I wish I could just put the old nut on the line and be done wit this. It has been countless hours to get this damn nut to tighten
Since it is a rigid line, try loosening the other side so that the tube will wiggle a little. This additional flexibility should allow you to get the fitting started.
On my 2005, those power steering lines do not cross each other. I made a mental note of that when I had removed my power steering rack three weeks ago.

Here are some crunchy inspection camera photos of the lines on my 2006 power steering cooler-equipped Z51 C6:

they did not cross on the original line.
this is the replacement with rerouting. It is the only way that works
Got it all back together.
the major pain in the *** was the new larger nut would not grab threads.
the old one went in fine.
I decided to take a micrometer to each should of the nut before the threads started. The new brass nut was .007” larger! I taped off the threads and very carefully and lightly uses a Drendel with stone and ground off very smoothly and slowly exactly .007”.
I finally went in by hand just like the old one , for like 5 turns, then wrenched it with crows foot ( still a pain in the ***!)
I started out doing just the high pressure line, but since it was all such a pain, I also replaced the power steering pump and pulley.
It’s all back together. I didn’t add fluid yet, tomorrow shall either be a great day or a big headache!
