Default Jacks/Lifting Recommendation for Height to Pull Headers

I need to drop the tranny and fuel tanks, but my attempts to find someone locally with a lift were unsuccessful. For those that have done the job in your garage, what setup of blocks, stands, etc did you use to get the car high enough? The shop that came highly recommended in my area did a real crap job on the last work I paid them to do, so I figured I would just do it myself.

Quickjack or 4 6-ton-jack stands will work.

I would say at minimum you need to get the car 18 inches off the ground. But the higher, the better.

maybe if you enjoy struggling... they fall out of the bottom with minimal effort. OP I'd say 18-20 inches is sufficient. We've pulled the entire driveline on several c5/c6s with nothing more than 4 jack stands on the rocker corners. Its not the most fun job but its doable. A good motorcycle jack for the cradle works wonders if you have access to one.

Can confirm this is true..............if the heads are removed from the engine.

No, on a C6 Corvette (with an assembled engine) you have to install headers from below the car.

Yeah it would be a struggle to get the drivers side out from the top, Passenger side maybe but still... why fight it? Oil lines on dry sump cars are the biggest challenge, baring those headers on a c6 are a cake walk from the bottom.

Header size is also an issue. On say 1 7/8 things may be OK but if you go to 2 inch you may need to do other things like pull out starter or raise engine on one side a little etc.

I couldn't even install my Hooker shorty headers from up top, I'd love to see how it's done w long tubes.

Did mine with standard 2 ton jack stands sitting on top of platforms I made with 2x4’s… it was prob 18-20” off the ground. No problems at all

I'm old school here, but I remember Hooker headers as the worst fitting headers of all. I would hope that they have improved over the years.

Nope!

They are supposed to be "direct fit".
If needing a torch, solid steel rod and hammer to install them is their meaning of direct fit then I guess they fit great.
I didn't want long tubes on this car and I wanted to keep more low end torque, especially with the Centri SC.
The Hooker shorty's are well made, just fit like crap. Some things never change I guess.

Sorry but no this is not correct.

Directly from Kooks install instructions of headers for 2005 to 2013 C6 Corvette: “Kooks C6 headers install from underneath the vehicle.”
