Default P0016

Getting a p0016 code after doing a rebuild on ls3 c6. Car turns on & stays on only while on throttle if I let off it dies. Changed crank sensor on it and still does the same. Has anyone had this before?

A P0016 is a cam-crank “correlation” DTC and not a sensor one…since you said this is an engine rebuild you may have to get back into the engine…always helpful to fill out your profile concerning your car…this DTC info is for a 2007...a scope would be needed to interpret these cam and crank "falling edges"...a cam-crank waveform from my 01 below...cam sensor is the red trace…the “falling” edge is the right side of that cam signal.

If the crankshaft reluctor wheel was messed with during the rebuild, I hope it was re-installed in the correct position with the use of the positioning tool. If the engine ran fine before and the reluctor wheel was not messed with during this rebuild, this should not be an issue.

the reluctor wheel wasn’t messed with at all. Engine was rebuilt b/c a piece of the pistol chipped and started knocking.

You may have difficulty finding a shop that has a scope or if they have one knows how to use it…dealerships don’t use one either !!
