Default LS7 Build Piston Material Choice

Hi Guys,

I am building an LS7.
Crank HP range 560 to 600 @ 6500 RPM.

The engine parts vendor that I am working with has recommended a 2618 piston material.

Piston Vendor : RaceTech.

This is a high performance street build.

Given the past, I have only used 4032 pistons.

From a reliability viewpoint, is it a mistake to use 2618 pistons?

I am not looking to change pistons every 50 K miles.

I am also not looking for crazy amounts of piston slap when cold.

Any advice is appreciated.

Best Regards,

Bruce

2618 has a higher expansion rate, which on a high heat engine I may not want. 2618 is also pretty strong, but has lower elasticity than say 4032. This pistons themselves shouldn't really have too many wear points, the steel rings will take the brunt of it. I wouldn't expect you to need to change pistons every 50k miles.

on your NA motor, I'd go with 4032 alloy
