The 0443 is a “circuit” code (wiring) so you need to concentrate on wiring and not the purge valve being opened or closed…maybe check for a short to ground on the control wire (dark green/white)…remove the purge valve connector and connect the test light to battery positive or B+ on the alternator…probe the control wire while wiggling the harness as much as you can and see if the test light illuminates…look for “points of contact” where the harness passes near some metal…you can try that !!
Okay, finally got a chance to try this test with the test light going to the positive side of the battery and probing the ground (green and white wire) on the connector. The test light is plusing like it should. Moved the connector around to see if it would stop working but it didn’t change anything. Also plugged in the code reader to see if anything was changed and everything is checking ready in the I/M window except for the evaporator it is still showing incomplete. Also ran another evaporator Test through the code reader, and now it’s showing that it is leaking and failed. Not sure why the oxygen sensors are showing ready but yet if you check the cat status it showing that bank two has failed. Went ahead and ordered another purge valve since they’re not very expensive. I’m going to try that one. When it gets here on Tuesday or Wednesday. Also still trying to find someone with a scanner and not just a code reader
The test light should only flash if the EVAP system is doing its test when the engine is running…if the test light came on steady you probably have a short to ground…the test only runs for a short period of time…if the light flashes and you go for a 30 minute drive and then check it and it flashes again it SHOULDN’T !!…if the car has more than 3/4 of a tank or less than 1/4 the test doesn’t run…the only way I can check it is with a bidirectional scan tool…if the PCM is grounding that circuit a new purge valve won’t help you…were you doing this test with the engine running or not ??…if it was flashing with the engine not running it should not but sometimes these purge valve control wires might have a low duty cycle even with the engine off…the only way to tell is with the engine running see if you have vacuum on the fuel tank side of the purge valve.
