Hello everyone. I could really use some help. I just purchased a 2005 vette, had it shipped to me and now it will not run correctly. Not to mention this is my first vette. Cold start is fine, drive it 5-10 miles and it stalls out. Dash works everything else is dead. Service electrical system and traction control comes up on the dash. Go to start it and it just doesn't turn over. Give it 10 minutes starts up and does the same thing 5-10 miles up the road. Finally after a few tries I got back home. Sputters a little bit when I got home. The engine light comes on speratcily during this issue and can go away. I have read every post and it could be at least a dozen of things. Please help. This was my first ride and I'm so baffled. Any help woukd be appreciated
There is a voltage gauge on the instrument panel as well as a digital read out of voltage on the DIC. What does it say when the car is off? What does it say as you are driving? Does it change as it nears the shut down point? When off, it should say 12.5 volts or so. When driving, it should say about 14.5 volts.
The first place to start (no pun intended) is the battery. Even though it may seem to be charging correctly, the battery may have a cell problem. Then check the cable attachments to the battery itself. They can work loose. Then check the ground underneath the battery, and the connections on the starter any of which can created all sorts of electrical issues. If that doesn't seem to change anything, go into the passenger compartment under neath the floor mat and check to make sure all of the connections are good with the computer components. Sometimes they work loose. Good luck.
Battery is new. I will check the ground and the connections. I have to admit. After idling for a few minutes I checked the fuse box in the engine compartment. Man those things were hot.

New does not mean good. It would still be a good idea to have the battery load tested. It costs nothing more than a trip to your local parts store.
First things first....get an OBD reader & check for error codes. If you don't have access to a reader. any of the big box auto parts stores will read codes at no cost.
It is possible that the alternator is not charging correctly, because that's what runs all the electronics once the battery has started the engine. If so, the car runs off the battery instead, and that won't last very long.

Do this First, I had a similar problem with my '05. I replace the ECM all is good now. Code read bad ECM all sensors came up bad on my reader. This seems to a common problem with the '05 corvette bad ECM.
I have 05, and never experiences what you are, but my first thing after knowing the battery is good, and charging system working correctly, I would have towed, throwing parts into the car can get very expensive.
I would remove the battery, easy to remove, remember to re-index the windows once you install that battery back in the car.
Sounds a bit like the battery + alternator cable connection at the starter solenoid may become loose after the engine heats up. Could be loose at the solenoid terminal connection or a broken terminal post, in which case you would need to replace the solenoid. With a DVOM and the car running, check the voltage at the positive battery terminal and then at the alternator positive cable connection to ensure that you are reading very close to the 13 - 14v+ range for both. Once the car heats up check again. If you begin to experience a voltage drop at the battery, then the aforementioned connection would be suspect and/or a failing alternator.
Best hope that the ECM isn't a prime suspect as the 2005 is a one-off year model and they are becoming very difficult to locate replacements. Only used or rebuilt are available.
Good luck and be sure to post back the final problem determination and resolution...GD
Thanks everyone for the help. I said screw it and towed it to a mechanic. What they have so far is a cam shift sensor. Hasn't changed it yet but not showing as operable.
Turbo6ta. This was a private sale that was shipped. Had an issue with the optima battery terminal. Too small. Not a good connection. Changed it out to a deca battery. Drove 80 miles and no problems. Got it up here and this happened.
