Default Polishing scratches on windshield

Has anyone had good results polishing a glass windshield?
I have a nasty scratch, right in the line of sight on my HUD windshield. It is on the inside. ( was there when I bought the car ) Looks like someone was cleaning and maybe scratched it with their watch band.
I took it to a detail shop and they said 60% that it could be buffed out. They would use an electric buffer. They said to use Mendonza polish. I worked on it with little results.
You can feel some of the scratch with your finger nail but most you can't. The detail shop would charge a minimum of $150 which could be more depending on their time. With no guarantees. I am aware of possible distortion with too much buffing.
Is a new windshield in my future or is it worth the risk from the detail shop?
New windshield is $665. I will probably be paying out of pocket. NCM insurance.

I have used this with decent results on minor scuffs/scratches. Not sure how it would work on your scratches though.

Also you could add glass coverage to your insurance coverage and if “something” were to happen, rock chip, rock crack etc insurance would pay.

These guys carry polishes and abrasives that will actually remove scratches from glass. They are professional grade products containing carbide and/or diamonds. I've had very good results with their stuff - the scratches go away and the glass is crystal clear. Easy to use if you are experienced with rotary power tools.

check your windshield for an interior tint too - I use airblue/wincos in my cars to keep the interior cool. Maybe its just a scratch in that.

Thank you. That is just what I was looking for. I have a kit on order. I'll let you know how it works.

I initially thought that was the case but unfortunately found that I do not have interior tint.

A general rule of thumb is that if you can feel it with your fingernail in the glass, it won’t come out. That said, our vendor at work has done some amazing things that even he thought wouldn’t come out as well as they did. Best of luck!

I ordered a Windscreen polish kit for less the $20 from The Glass Polish Shop. I figured at that price it is worth a try. They have a video of a guy polishing out windshield wiper scratches with excellent results. If it doesn't work I will replace the windshield.
