If you have a base car you won't have to deal with tranny/diff coolant lines, but this is basically everything you need to know.

Ok I always thought a Z51 was not base, my mistake, either way that thread will help.

Default Been there.

I changed my torque tube last year. I was not bad. I changed the drive axles and all my shocks at the same time. Dropping the entire back suspension sounded bad, but wasn't too bad. I did mine in my garage with the car on blocks about 2 ft off the concrete. Backed it all out sitting on a floor jack. Get help lowering and moving. The jack carries the weight on the xmsn pan but someone needs to guide the engine side so as to not tear **** up. BTW, when I bought my new shaft they sent 2. I have a new torque tube 8905-9715 for sale. For the same reason I have extra drive axles, both for the base and the Z51 (which I have).

Best of luck OP, Jon.

Many have done this DIY and my FWIW comment is I hope you have a lift and all the tools.
I would "hate" to do this job on jack stands
