I have a 2008 and am having trouble with the gear shift lever. When the car is in park, I can't get it back to drive immediately; it takes several tries, then finally I am able to pull it back. The local Chevy dealer is saying it's a wiring harness issue with the shifter assembly. They want an arm and leg in costs to fix. Any suggestions? And, what do you think is reasonable to fix cost wise? I would sure appreciate any input and recommendations you can provide.
Chances are the micro switch is going bad. This switch allows you to move from park to other selections.
Several have tied the locking pawl back or have broken it (this would be me.) so that the shifter moves independently of the micro switch.
If your mechanically inclined you can remove console and replace micro switch or tie locking pawl back, both cheap fixes.
