Default Trunk cubby module

Hello folks! I was installing a subwoofer the other day and ran my ground through the passenger cubby compartment in the trunk to the frame. While I was in there, I pulled out the fabric insert and discovered some kind of module. My car is a 2008 Z51 1LT base. Can somebody tell me what this module is? I eventually would like to move my battery back to this compartment.

Do you have a picture? On my father's 2005 vert I put the mild2wild in the driver's side cubby and put the battery (bought a Z06 style battery group along with vent and hold down parts) in the passenger cubby and bought the factory Z06 cables.

Just looked up pictures, that appears to be it. I'm wondering if I'm able to rip this out. Id like to get rid of the on-star stuff as well. Or will a battery fit in there even with that module there

In some searching, now that I know what the module is, I have found that it can be removed as long as the tan and tan/black wires are jumped. Ill be tackling this soon, and removing the rest of on-star as well. Would love to move the battery to the trunk on that side

That is what I did and no problems. The battery I didn't move since a new small one weighs so little. For a sub I used a flat one with straps through the carpet in back.
