Default SE Header hitting steering shaft

One header tube was lightly rubbing the steering shaft. I didn’t want to remove the header to make a dent if I didn’t have to. I gently used a pry bar between a header tube and the shaft to make a gap. Then used a torch and quickly heated the portion of tube rubbing. Quickly placed a small chisel length wise with the shaft between the shaft and tube. Released the pry bar and then applied pressure against the steering shaft toward the header to make a small dent in the tube while it was still red. I didn’t gain much clearance but it was enough to clear the shaft now.
Just sharing my idea in case others are interested. Thanks and Happy 4th of July!

Glad you were able to get it taken care of!
I don’t get why some ppl have this issue and some dont. I get that not every car is the same not every set of headers is exactly the same but it’s crazy to me how some clear fine and others
rub! Thankfully the set of Kooks I have have tons of clearance because that would drive me crazy. Glad you were able to make it work. Happy 4th!

It’s been driving me nuts lol. Occasionally you could hear it and feel it slight vibrate in the steering wheel. I’m thinking a DS motor mount might help me also.

Oh yea I bet… that would drive me crazy for sure. The motor mount might help some. Is it a newer set of SE headers or older? You could always pull it off, heat it up and dent it some. That’s crazy tho you shouldn’t have to do that even on a cheaper set of headers

Newer set. Installed Dec 22. The clearance and fit is pretty nice other than that one tube.

On another note as well. Ever since the cam and headers, it had that annoying sewing machine sound. That went away once I gained the clearance on the header tube.
