Default Automatic Shifter Question

I have 2009 automatic Vert with less than 11,000 miles on her. In the last 6 months I’ve had 2 shifter issues. The first “STUCK IN PARK” issue I solved by cutting off that plastic hook/pawl. The second issue left me stranded in a parking lot due to a failed plastic bushing where the cable gets attached to the shift lever in the console. Temporally fixed for now but I will have the entire cable replaced in the next few weeks.

Now I’m concerned about another potential problem with these cheaply constructed Corvettes. You can only start the car in PARK with your foot on the brake. So there must be one or more switches/sensors somewhere that tell the computer it’s OK to let you start the car. Where are these switches and are they prone to fail and leave you stranded again and should I be replacing them as well. I find getting stranded extremely stressful.

I love my Corvettes (C5 & C6) but I’ve lost all confidence their ability to get me safely anywhere. I now carry all kinds of tools with me in the trunk (including 2 jacks); I’m careful how I park my car so getting on a tow truck will be easy and I hold my breath every time I get into the car to start it up and put it in gear. When I got rid of all my old Corvettes I thought I was done with this --- not so. I hope the C8’s are NOT manufactured with super cheap, unreliable Chinese parts like the C5’s and C6’s.
