Default extra nuts after putting everything back together?

2009 manual corvette base. long story short, when I do work on anything I keep the nuts and bolts by the part or put them back in place till ready to bolt everything back up. I removed the torque tube and put these 2 bolts on top of the differential. when I put everything back together I could not figure out where these 2 nuts go. they're 10mm nuts with a captive washer. they are not for the exhaust hangers or the nuts that hold the trans to diff.

Trans/diff mount? The 2 "hidden" ones?

thank you, i did change the diff mount to poly, i definitely recommend it. those nuts are like 15mm, these 2 are 10mm.

Do you mean 10mm or 6mm? If they are M6 nuts (take a 10mm wrench), they are probably the nuts that secure the inner shift lever boot to the studs on the center tunnel.

Good thought. all four bolts for the inner boot are accounted for. these 2 nuts were on top of the differential when i put everything back together so they have to be related to at least the rear undercarriage. the interior is all assembled and accounted for.

How about the nuts that secure the brake & fuel line clip mounting plates to the inside of the center tunnel.

another great thought, pretty sure those are bolts and are accounted for and installed as well. i am thinking these are from the differential area.

They are nuts with captive washers, like in your picture. They engage studs welded to the center tunnel.

The nuts don't have to come out, but it can be helpful to remove them to more easily detach the rear brake lines for lowering the rear subframe.

i see what you mean. when lowering the rear subframe i suspended the driver side caliper off the cooling duct. then disconnected the barrel fitting to the passenger side caliper. i am familiar with the brake line attachment you are showing. and just used a screw driver to pop out the passenger brake line to make putting the barrel connections back together easier. pretty confident i did not remove that nut holding it to the frame. i do see your point though.

The OP mentioned "they are not for the exhaust hangers," which are M8s. The pictured nuts look like M6s (10mm across the flats). I assume that's what he meant by 10mm.
