2007 Corvette power Convertible with 20K mileage - Top won't operate. Vehicle is on level ground, Manual gear shifter in Neutral, Parking brake is pulled tight. Keep getting message to set parking brake. Pulling back hard on emergency brake handle with no effect. Keep getting message to set parking brake. Problem started last year. For new driving season, began season operating fine; now the problem recurs. What to do? Any suggestions?? Top works fine up and down when able to activate power mechanism.
There's a switch that tells the car if the brake is set. In my experience that switch can become corroded/dirty. The "correct" way to fix is to remove the parking brake, but for me just pulling up the boot and giving it a shot of contact cleaner down there worked fine and saved a lot of labor.
Not sure when I pull up the parking brake handle. With the brake on I press the up activation button, I hear the dinging and receive the message to set the parking brake
Thanks for the suggestion. I read where possibly the parking brake mechanism needs to be adjusted/tightened underneath the Corvette. Have you experienced that remedy?
Look at the red circled Ebrake switch in the below PIC. A single wire connects to this sensor and when the brake handle is pulled up the connection is made to tell the car system that the brake is enabled. Yours may have a problem with this switch.
Hello Thank you very much for the question, prompt response and help. I checked the car today. Your noted action is the trick. Pull the brake lever and no dash Brake light on. Pull harder/tighter on brake handle and the brake light lit. With the brake light lit the top up activated and worked the way it was designed to. Subsequent Question now is: What needs to be done to correct this pull hard issue so that we don't have to exert so much muscle on the brake handle. Does the Emergency brake system need an adjustment to the rear wheels? If yes, what needs to be done and are there any videos that show how and where (rear wheel) to make the adjustment.
Thank you again for your help. It is much appreciated. Mike
I found or see a picture the parking brake mechanism and what you have circled. Is that what you are referring to? Is that mechanism underneath the car? or inside under the boot. Where do you access the mechanism?
