Default C6 problems

I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 C6 with 36k miles on it. Every time I look at one I read about the problems with C6's such as the balancer, the fuel tank problems and the shifter problems. I've read several
threads about those being the most common problems. How common are those problems and about how much is the cost to repair them at a dealer? I've tried to get dealers to tell me the approximate costs
to repair them and they say, you need to bring it in before we can give you a quote. Thanks

All of this is correct. Probably by far, the most common problem is the HB wobble/going bad. But this is a common problem with all GM cars and trucks with the LS engine.

Cost of this repair at a stealership will be high. Probably $1500 or more because there is a lot of labor involved. If you are able-bodied, you can do this job yourself.

The fuel tank problem shouldn't be an issue. I think by this point most C6's that will have had the problem, have had it and this fix was covered for free by GM. But I think that coverage has expired by now so if you have to get this fixed at a stealership, it will likely be $1000+.

As for the shifter issue, I think you mean the broken linkage that auto cars can have, this is easy to fix yourself but at a stealership shouldn't be more than a couple hundred dollars.

C6 Corvettes overall are probably some of the most reliable cars ever made. Most never have any major issues. Buy it.

Don't let those issues worry you if you want a C6.Every vehicle has it's issues but you hardly ever hear about all the ones that DON'T have a problem, just the ones that do.I have a C5 with 130k miles with no balancer problems but it may happen the next time I drive it.Am I concerned about it?NO!

If all you look for is problems, you'll probably find several here, because that's where people come to get answers. I had an alternator die at 800 miles, another at 52K miles, and the third one was still working fine at 161K when I sold the car. The balancer never died, but the idler pulley failed sometime after 100K.
Since ALL C6''s are out of warranty, a dealer is probably the most expensive place to get things repaired. While some people think 36K miles is a lot on a 13 year old Corvette, even those people drive their other cars well past that mileage. Don't let fear of problems control your enjoyment of life. Learn to accept that when things go wrong, most can be fixed.
BTW, always use top tier premium fuel. I prefer Chevron with Techron to keep the fuel system clean.

Find the car you want and can afford. Get a pre-purchase inspection from a GOOD INDEPENDENT repair shop that you have a relationship with, or that has a really good Corvette tech.
Then, enjoy the hell out of owning one of the best cars GM ever produced.
Finally, never ever ever ever, take it to a dealership for anything!!!!!!

The balancer is the only "big issue" Its a 200 dollar part (Summit Racing, please don't use GM OE) with a lot of labor. I would not let that stop me from buying a C6. Its a lot of fun, I promise.

Hi there,
I have had 2 C6's and both have had the balancer wobble. It's not a terribly difficult job, but will run around $1500 if a dealership does the work. When I bought my 2010 GS I also purchased a service contract through Veritas. Cost was $2800. This Thursday my 2010 goes to the dealership to get a new balancer and it will cost me my $100 deductible. I am a firm believer of pay now or pay more later and a warranty (service contract). If I guessed correctly, between now and when my car posts 85,000 miles I should have had this warranty pay for itself and then some. If in doubt buy a warranty and figure the cost into your current budget. If you get a $500 deductible, the cost should be around $2000, or one major unexpected repair...
