one that pulls air from outside the hot engine bay area, and is not from the bottom of the car, that can suck water into if you drive through a deep enough puddle, to hydro lock the motor and destroy it.
As for Cold air intake, it not going to gain you any powder, only slow down the spark timing retard from pulling in hot air if sitting still instead. Once you start to move, then air in the engine bay is lowered instead. The hotter the air, the more the timing is retarded and the more power you are losing.
I went with the Snake Charmer CAI, it pulls in air from behind the front grill. The biggest advantage of this style is reducing timing pullback as Dano suggested. Although they do not add more horsepower, my SOP (seat of the pants) felt like a crisper throttle response, I do live in Florida where temps get pretty hot though. Many folks are not aware of the difference in stock intakes between LS2 and LS3, whereas the LS3 stock intake more than likely flows more than the stock LS2 intake. As for ingesting water from a deep puddle with the likes of the Snake Charmer, that could be a concern and you have to take in to account that water has to get past the oiled air filter too. I only drive in the rain if I am caught in the rain, and I avoid deep puddles regardless of the vehicle I am driving.
