07 Z06…Swapped out my starter last May ..It needed to be replaced …My headers are ceramic coated …How many of you are running heat shields or wrap on your starters ?
When car is warm not even hot there is like a two second delay when I hit the start button and it labors …Of course when it’s cold there is no delay ..
Would a starter heat shield make it work better ? Some tuners I spoke to do not like heat shields or wrap on the starter ….Hmm ….I don’t know ..
I’m running ceramic coated long tubes and have not wrapped my starter. I hear both sides as to what to do. If you wrap there is no air flow to cool components . I noticed with ceramic coating the heat dissipate very fast even here in AZ . I drive my vette hard and have zero protection for starter, and that’s been since 2015. All is well.
My speed shop said to leave starter and even spark plug wires uncoated or wrapped. So far so good.
wrapping is like wearing a snow suit. Insulation, and heat can't escape from the component. Thats whey sections of exhaust are wrapped. To retain heat and protect nearby component. But not wrapping the actual component.
heat shielding is the way to go for a starter https://www.lingenfelter.com/product/L800010000.html
Air is the best insulator there is. I got the jet hot highest rated coating they have with my arh headers and even supercharged for years in Florida I have no starting issues with the oem starter. There is almost an inch gap between the headers and the starter

This is a problem many here have had. If you’re experiencing this there is likely another issue other than heat. Do a proper diagnostic first including a voltage drop test, and go from there. Bad block to frame grounds are notorious, as well as battery to chassis ground.
Doing anything else is simply throwing **** into the wind and hoping for the best. Good luck with your repair.
