6l80E Trans Kits
I have my car down for heads/cam swap, and I was wondering if anyone has done these rebuild kits like the SunCoast or others on the market?
While I have my trans out for a converter, I want to rebuild my trans with one of these kits.
2006 a6, headers + simple bolt ons (CAI, trans/motor tune, HB, etc.) 80k mi.
and a Sonnax piston kit. This was the first 6L80 that I've ever worked on, but I was a transmission rebuilder in a previous career, so I felt confident in taking this on.I couldn't be happier with the stall and the shift quality. Definitely doable, but easy to screw up.Not sure what you're asking but yes it's worth it to firm up the hard throttle upshifts.

I haven’t torn into a trans, but my buddy does transmissions at my local dealer so I’m lucky there.
I'll just share what I I think are key points.
Transgo and Sonnax are the real deal. Factory calibration of the pressure regulator and TCC, are the root causes of this unit being less than optimal for performance use.
These issues are addressed in the Transgo kit. Along with other excellent info.
Now trans shifts smoothly at light throttle, bangs at full throttle, and doesn't fall flat at low RPMs. The factory converter would only stall up to 1100 rpm. Now its about 2k. Perfect IMO.
I believe that it's a stout unit that I would prefer over the 8L or 4L. The gear ratios are perfect IMO.
BUT,
You will need to install a serious trans cooler, which is a lot of work to do right.
I was curious how much hotter it would run and the answer was, much hotter. First 60 degree day in Seattle, trans hit 225 in mild driving.
After replacing fog lamp with cooler/fan, never gets above 200.
Do it!
