Hello everyone. New member here with a new to me 2011 Grand Sport convertible. I purchased it two months ago with 26,000 miles on it, and with all maintenance documentation since new. The original owner did a nice job of keeping up on the maintenance, but it's been about 6 years now since the brake system was flushed. I'm very familiar with how to do it, however, it appears that to do it in a thorough manner you need a scan tool to cycle the ABS appropriately, and therein lies my question.
Does anyone have a scan tool that they recommend for this? The selection is a little intimidating with the number of choices, so I am deferring to the experts on this forum to guide me to the right tool. I'd like to keep it under $200, however, I am not opposed to spending more if I'm getting much better value by doing so. I asked this question on a couple of C6 groups on facebook, and I received a few comments to just take it in and have it done by a shop (but no responses with a recommendation). While I respect that advice, I enjoy doing my own work, and I would much rather do it myself.
My apologies if this has been covered in another thread. I just joined this forum this morning, and while I looked through the threads, I didn't see one with this subject. Thanks in advance, and best regards. Tom
Save yourself some money. Suck out the brake fluid I the reservoir (all of it) fill it with fresh dot 3, go for a drive and do 3-4 panic stops where ABS activates until stop. Than come back and do a regular bleed.
I am the original owner of my 11 GS, that is what do and once every 6 months I suck up all the fluid in the reservoir and replace it with fresh dot 3. Just in case I do proper bleed once every 5 years, but that is not even necessary as the fluid that comes out is very clean, since it has been refreshed every year. I am extending it to 7 years.
I'd vote the OP continues his hunt for a "scanner".
Having this tool is great for ownership.
Do a search, our co-member Dano, has made recommendations for a scanner.
FWIW in summary, I believe the standard Tech II option will be good for your Vette, but other scanners will do all the Tech II does, plus do even more vehicle models.
