Still learning the car so bear with me. It's a 2005 Convertible I got in April. Starting about a week ago, get into the car and the instrument cluster is lit up and gauges work. About a week ago, the instrument cluster illumination went dark for a second or two, then came back fine. Each time I drove the car, that dark time got longer each time till it stays dark. Right now when you get into the car the instrument cluster is light up, then as soon as you push the start button, the illumination goes off (gauges still work and have a 'top' not locked error and they are still present). I've looked at all the fuses under the hood, all are good.
I was able to get a scanner on the car today and found 4 issues under the instrument cluster. P0004: Fuel Volume Flow Reg Ctl Circuit high voltage, U1153 Loss of Htg and A/C Comm. U1088 Lost Comm W/Sensing & Diag Module (SDM). U1040 Lost Comm W/Elec Brake Comm Module (EBCM).
Anyone have something like this happen before? I'm still looking up the U1088 but does any of those look suspect on this issue?
Thanks for any ideas you have.

You may be experiencing the automatic headlamps coming on with the dimmer turned all the way down. Try turning the headlamps off manually to see if the instrument illumination comes back.
Torquetube
You're onto something! Turning the light control from Auto all the way to the top "Exterior light control" then back to auto and the dash illumination was restored. Not sure how long it will last, but definitely is involved and appreciate it.
I'll still be working on the issues with the car but really appreciate the help. It's on page 3-14 of the owner's manual for those interested.
Thanks again.
I may not have said it enough, but I really appreciate the members on this website. Always a wealth of information and willing to share it for other car owners. Going from a C4 to a C6 has been quite a change, but I'll hopefully get with it soon.
