Strong gasoline smell
Dealer wanted $4500 but would not do unless they had all the parts. And some could not be found
Went to a corvette shop here in Austin 2700.00 Mine had leak so bad it mess up the weather seal on the wiring harness they over night the harness out of Canada and got me all fixed up. Mine was an auto. They also checked the filler neck for cracks and the tank. 6 months no more issues
As for price, my best bet is an independent shop that specializes in GM. They are familiar with the problem.
But with the two inner plastic tubes being unavailable, I fear what would happen if the shop breaks them.
Do you think I should source some used tubes before I take the car to the shop?
And with the transmission and torque tube out, there should be plenty of room to be much more careful. It mainly is a problem of leverage and with the trans and torque tube assembly in, the amount of room to work is very small.
There are several good thread with pictures here on the forum that you can reference as well as a few videos on YouTube of people tackling this job.
One thing I would point out is that the tubing system in the driver's side tank (two black tubes) is held in place in the crossover tube opening with some plastic tabs that clip into place. It is nearly impossible to not break a few or all of those tabs. But an easy fix instead of replacing the tube assembly, is to just use some small zip ties to hold it in its place. Zip ties are compatilble with gas and only need to hold the tubes in place during assembly.
Also, a good idea to have them replace the o-ring seals of the black inner tubes. All you need a some Viton o-rings and match the sizes. For assembly, a good slathering of silicone grease makes everything go back together easy.
I would talk to the mechanic about the black inner tubes and point these details out. If they have worked on the C6 fuel system before, even better.
