Default Key Fob

Hello, first post here, also new to owning a c6 and loving it so far.

I'm terribly sorry if my lack of knowledge shows here but I am simply learning, anyhow-

Recently I left my keys on my roommates car roof and they somehow made it all the way to I4 before falling off and probably got obliterated. I tried looking for them with the airtag but no deal. This was my only key because the previous owner only had one :/

Chevrolet wants 500 after tax pretty much to cut me a new key and program it. If there is another route I can take thats much cheaper please give me all of the advice you can. I am terrified that I wont be able to drive my car again.

When I bought my car (used) it had only one working fob, and stories like this made me want to have a backup. Long story short, I ended up going to the dealer and had them program a new Chevy fob for me, I already had the physical key so I didn't need to have that made, and it still cost me around $425. So $500 is probably not out of line these days at the stealer.

Unless you have a backup physical key or fob, it's unlikely that a locksmith or one of those replacement fob places can do it for you.

I have what appears to be a new fob for a C6 that I do not need as I have a 7.

I would be willing to donate it to the cause as I received it in some stuff I bought and never paid for it.

I have no idea if it works or not but it has an uncut key and looks new.

let me know

If you bring your VIN # and proof of ownership to the dealer they can cut you a new key, that will allow you to program a new key fob with the long method provided this is not a Canadian car.

Nice gestureIf OP doesn't take it I would be interested in buying it if you want to sell it.

lots of scanners these days have the ability to program a new FOB, a Tech2 does for sure. Pick up a FOB online and visit a few local shops besides the dealer

I mean you can buy a Chinese Tech2 and a box of Fobs cheaper than you would pay the dealer!!
