Default Track day tire recommendations

Looking for a tire for a second set of wheels for a track day at MidOhio. Nothing too extreme…I want to drive on the street with these to and from the track (200 miles round trip). Less expensive the better…I’m not trying to break any track records, just don’t want to trash my street tires.

Assuming you have a non-widebody car, a set of 200-300 treadwear tires from e.g. Continental, Yokohama or Hankook will run you around $1,000 but last a few track days if you aren't abusing them. What are your street tires? I've done a few track days on my PS4S's and they still look fine.

That's the rub, since you could run R888r's on the street and track, but they do sound like your over pushing the car into every corner, and once you get to the bottom of the scalps, the tires are cooked.
Super cups do come in run flats, can be run on the street, have plenty of rubber left on them once you have run the treads down, but they are not cheap.

As for real road course track tires, then want to look into something like the Hooser R7's, on seperate rims, that you can change out not only the tires and rims as the track, but the brake pads as well. Hence push the car hard enough with even the R888rs or super cups, and the street pads on the brakes, are going to catch on fire/melt. As for race pads back on the street that have the higher temp rating, suck big time for that, since will not come up to temp on the street to start to grab for any real braking, and going to be loud as well.

So unless you have a chase car to bring what you need to the track to run for the day, then trailer behind the vet to the track, is your best option instead.

Probably get better feedback in the Autocross/Road Race section.
Lots of good 200TW street tires to choose from, but I don't know them well enough to comment on their attributes.
Be safe and have fun!
