Default Fuel Pump level sensor help

Hello the lady at the parts counter gave me the wrong fuel pumps left and right. She gave me the fuel pumps that are for an 05-06, I need an 09.

after reading through threads it seems the update after 07+ pumps from GM was the resistance was being read in the opposite direction.

my questions:

1. Can I just cut and flip the wires for the fuel sending unit to reverse the reading

2. Can I just go on rock auto and buy the sending unit by itself and remove the one currently on the pumps(05-06) and replace it with an 09 sending unit?

3. Is there another method that is not aware of?

I can’t tune the parameters through hptuners because I have to pass smog and California checks the ECM for modification.

Its the stat bars on the fuel level sensor that are reversed in order, since the float arm only works in one direction.

But yes, you could get the correct sending unit to replace on the pump, or you could just swap out the stat bar pads on the sensor isntead.

Since this modification to the ECM doesn't affect driveability, you could always flash it back to stock for smog only, then flash it back after smog so you have an accurate fuel gauge.

I was going to do this but as soon as you turn the ignition on it’ll throw a check engine light and that will automatically fail me unfortunately.

it’ll go into service fuel system and throw p2066 and p2636.

Yes, hence catch 22 with C.A.R.B, since without tune to swap the sensor input, going tor throw a code, while if you do use HP tuner to do the neeed corrections, screwed since oem tune has been changed.

So only what your going to pass CA smog, is to drop the tanks, pull the fuel pumps, and change out the fuel sending unit tstat's to the correct ones for that year of car..
