Default Header Install

Hey guys, I’m in the middle of installing Kooks headers on my car and noticed the oil cooler lines are resting right on the header. Is that going to be a problem long-term? Should I be rerouting them or insulating them somehow? Looking for advice from anyone who’s run into this.

You don't want anything contacting the header even if it has some heat insulation.

I did not have this problem when I installed my Kooks. Did your kit have a small oil line bracket with it? This should push the oil lines up enough to give clearance.

You could also carefully bend the lines just a small amount to get clearance. All you need is about 1/4 of an inch and you should be good.

Check on site here I think there is a photo of the bracket kit installed on the lines.

I slightly bent the bracket that holds these lines to the block I think it was to give the needed clearance.
Mine are ARH though.

I go over this section as an install note somewhere in this video:

My Grand Sport FINALLY gets longtubes!

What size are the primary tubes you have - 1 3/4, 1 7/8, 2.00....?

Where does the primaries come into play? It looks like the interference is at the collector.

If the bracket for the oil lines does not move the lines go give enough clearance, you can mark the spot with a Sharpie, then use a ball peen hammer to dent the header in that spot for clearance. This will not affect the flow or performance in any way and you won't see the dent.

Bigger primaries = bigger collector at the merge. You don't take 2" primaries and then squish them to fit a collector designed for 1 7/8

I thought the same collector is used on all headers?
I was today years old.

Some brands but not all will use a large collector for all their primary tubes and then fill in the gaps with welding. Not sure if Kooks does that or if they tailor the collector design to the primary pipe size.
