Hi Yall,
I am fairly new to the LS platform and just building an engine overall, and I was wondering.
I want to do a stage 1 cam from BTR on my 2007 base, what supporting mods would I need to make sure the thing doesnt go kaboom. I plan on buying the cam package from them, but what else do I need? Thanks in advance to anyone who could help!
I wouldn't install a new cam in an 18 year old engine without changing the lifters. Some might disagree...they're just wrong. You'll need valve springs, seals, pushrods, and probably a rocker arm upgrade too. Cam sprocket and timing chain would also be on my list. While intake and exhaust upgrades aren't absolutely necessary, you won't get the full improvements that a cam swap gives without them.
I wouldn't do any of this without upgrading the heads. At least a valve job and some milling along with a .040 set of head gaskets. Better yet, have them ported while they're off. Again, not totally necessary if your engine is healthy and you really don't care about power upgrades. Have I mentioned your LS2 is 18 years old?

I have a 08 base auto with 135k miles. I stuck a TSP Stage 4 cam in it. I did the springs, seals, pushrods, cam, and Trunion upgrade, Stock lifters because a didn't want to pull the heads.
She is till running and it gets ran pretty hard. If you are doing the cam swap i would defiantly do the trunions and a good harmonic balancer while its apart.
