I purchased my LS2 2007 C6 base back in December. It had some engine work done by a reputable shop (cam, ported throttle body, heads, injectors, etc).
I was on track and blew the engine. Car caught on fire but luckily I had an extinguisher in the car and was able to get it out before any additional damage.
I'm devastated but it's time to move on. My mechanic suggested an LS3 Crate motor (495hp). While I'm in there I plan to have the torque tube rebuilt and add an ACT clutch.
Is there anything else you would recommend doing while in there or a different route I should go with the motor? I plan to drive the car on the street and track it 3-4 times a year.
I would do whatever your end goal was with the car now since everything will be out. I think the LS3 crate motors are around 10k, you could probably build a bad *** 6.0 with a badass LS3 top end for cheaper. There's endless options really. I would definitely do all the mounts, torque tube rebuild, new clutch/slave TO bearing.
Blueprint has an LS3 crate motor with forged rods, I'd probably consider that vs GM's cardboard rods. I rebuilt my LS2 when it spun a rod bearing (had a spare crank) but I'd do something like the Blueprint next time.
as for locally building a stroker LS locally, every shop around me thinks they are Lingenfelter/Katech or better and want >$20k for a basic build. No thanks
