Default LS7 - Engine

This thread is obvious for many of you.... I am sorry for that, but I need to have answers.

There is a lot of reading about the weakness of LS7 engine and that most of people prefere to make some tek modifications before the engine breaks down.
Which position does people have in the US regarding the fragility of LS7 engine ? You have so many of it !!!!

Does this happen only on high mileage car ?
Does it happen most of the time when the car is not used as it should be, with some precautions ?
Did GM make some modification on the late making models ? 2010, 2011, 2012 ??

Thank you for your help on this topic !!

I'm getting my second C6 Z06. First one was a beast, especially at WOT in 3rd all the way to 7k RPM. My position is I need it now and the gas pedal is more like a dopamine drip.

Keep reading about the LS7 and you'll get an idea of the engine.

It seems to me that the LS7 is like a turbo. People love 'em and people hate 'em.

TLDR; All years had head issues. Check/Maintain/Repair/Replace as you see fit.
But at least do the wiggle test.

The LS7 is a fantastic, beast of an engine. But the heads are the main weakness. The valve guides and valve stems can wear to the extent that a valve can snap off and drop into a cylinder. This very typically destroys the head and the engine; the block casting is usually cracked and unsalvageable. ALL LS7 ENGINES ARE AFFECTED. REPEAT: ALL LS7 ENGINES HAVE THE PROBLEM.

Considering the cost of a replacement LS7 (if you can find one), it is worth it to purchase replacement heads that have been upgraded or "fixed". American Heritage Performance is one of the best companies for an excellent upgraded stock head. You purchase the head package from them, they ship the heads to you. You then remove your existing heads and install (or have a competent shop install) the AHP "fixed" stock heads. You then ship your old heads back to them to get a refund for the stock head cores. AHP then takes your stock heads you sent back, inspects and cleans them, then upgrades them to be able to sell them to the next person who wants to ensure their LS7 doesn't turn into a boat anchor.

Great ! Thanks a lot for your comment, that seems very interesting and serious way to upgrade it.
I really don't look for a best and more powerfull-efficient engine, the stock one is perfect for me, I just need to ensure my LS7 won't destroy by himself.

SO, you confirm that AHP is a really good option ?

Yes, AHP head is excellent. And it will keep your engine stock but make sure it remains reliable for a long long time.
