Hey yall, so I’ve been chasing this issue on my 2012 GS a6. I have a weird rubbing/ grinding noise coming from what sounds and feels like the driver front wheel.
symptoms:
turning right at 5mph- a felt and heard tapping/grinding noise (tryed my best but can’t hear noise on exterior of the car)
at highway speeds any right turn at almost any steering angle- results in same grinding noise (same speed of grind as slow mph)
under hard acceleration- same grinding noise
any Turn to the left/and or braking causes the noise to go away unless turned right
typically one to figure these things out easily, but I’m completely lost now.
I’ve replaced wheel hub, tie rod end, shocks, sway bar end links, upper & lower ball joint, alignment performed, and trimmed the brake duct to ensure clearance between the wheel and liner. I have also visually inspected the bushings with a pry bar and don’t see any excessive play.
Same symptoms on my 2008 with 18000 original miles and Z51. Happens on left turns with noise coming from right front wheel. Wondering if it's caliper issue. I removed the wheel to get closer look at the caliper and pads. I noticed the inside pad is tight against the rotor but outside pad is not. There is a bit of inward/outward play in the outer pad.
More metallic sound, then check sticking brake pad. Sticking caliper piston. Wear will be obvious on the pad.
Beers
checked the brake pads and they look to be in order, the only thing I noticed was the top side of the brake pad is wearing faster than the lower half but other than that it’s pretty even wear and no obvious metal to metal

You either have a binding pad, or a sticking piston on the top side. I would remove the pads and use some hi temp grease of the tabs. see if it helps. If the sound changes I would follow up by replacing pads.
New update on the issue, I just replaced my driver rear axle the issue still persists, the noise sounds like it’s from the rear in the passenger seat. But I noticed when the car was rolling in neutral and turning right, when I hit the gas the noise gets louder and faster
