The stock air intake on the LS3 isn't bad, aftermarket intake around $600 and not much gain for the money.....
I did go with the Attack Blue filter over the factory.

I'm with you. I spent $100 for the aFe power magnum flow filter (found on Amazon). Reusable just like K&N. Maybe get a smooth coupler for the connection to the Tb. Other than that airflow is more than enough for a stock motor. Put that extra money into something you can enjoy more.
go on youtube. they compare intakes on ls3's. like Tom said you will get little gain, and if you do the mods to the stock
one, it will be even better than some costing $1200.
You can get the same performance by getting a used Z06 intake and installing a shroud Generic Beehive™ Heat Shield and cut it to fit the stock intake. Pretty easy to do. Make an identical shroud out of cardboard. Cut it to fit. Then use that as a template to cut the actual shroud.
The power gains come from preventing the engine from sucking is hot engine bay air.

" preventing the engine from sucking is hot engine bay air" - does this only occur when the car is not moving, does the heat shroud have any benefits when the car is moving ?
Does anyone think the fake hood scoop should be opened up and force air in the intake. My ls7 has a little slit in the bottom of the sub wall that leaks air to the intake, it's a joke really.

I’ve noticed it directs airflow under that wall and into the filter area after i drilled holes for more airflow to the filter. The biggest benefit of a cai is reduced intake temps which in return gives you more timing and less knock retard. These engines start pulling timing and get more aggressive pulling timing as iat temps increase. Thats before any knock retard as well…
This past spring,I wanted to add a cold air intake to my ‘09 base model. After looking at a lot of aftermarket options, I choose the Halltech Killer Bee MF103. I basically picked this one because of the MAF sensor is relocated under the shroud to limit heat to the sensor. It seemed to make sense. Install was pretty straightforward. I’m very happy with this mod. Best wishes!
