I used Goof Off to help get the remaining glue residue off the inside of my wheels from wheel balance weights, 2007 chrome wheels. In the process it also removed the gray finish down to the, I assume, bare metal in some spots. Is there a certain gray paint or other finish I can use to blend it in?
I do not know what paint you can use to repair it, but for future reference use Mineral Spirits to remove tape weight residue. I will take off the sticky residue without harming the paint.
Goo Gone being citrus based will not hurt the paint, but I also think it may not work that great on foam tape adhesive. Goof Off is acetone based so yeah - same ingredient as paint remover / finger nail polish remover.

Goo Gone needs time to soak and perhaps even a few applications. I spray on the gel then lay a rag over it to prevent drying out. Walk away for a bit to prevent my impatience from messing with it.
I've used WD-40 in the past but you have to wash the wheels to remove the residue when you are done. I failed to do the wash part and after balancing and letting the wheels sit for a couple of months (had my track wheels on), nearly all of the weights had fallen off.
I always use 91% alcohol to clean the wheels where the weights are going to stick. Never had one fall off. In fact, they are stuck like glue when I have to remove them for rebalancing.

I used Rustoleum Aluminum colored paint, Very happy with the color match.
