Default Hard time removing OEM balancer.

Got most of my engine torn down and tried removing the balancer today only to have my OTC 6667 balancer puller break. I tried use a normal 3 jaw puller and it got no where. The puller was under a lot of strain, to the point where I stopped since I have 2 new pullers coming, in 2 different styles. I even tried some heat and a small impact. No luck. Advice? 2010 base model 6MT 27k miles, OEM balancer.

They're tight as hell but a 667 should pull it. Where did the 667 break? The center rod bend/break or jaws?

Maybe a poorly made version 667? Looks like the arms are cast looking at the break crossection... You bumping it with an impact shouldn't break the arms IMO. I'd try again with another version. Definitely make sure the jaws are making good contact/squared up with the damper contact points and crank on it. Should start moving off

That broke with hand tools.

I will usually put a lot of pressure on the puller (not enough to break it) then strike the end of the puller screw with a BFH and listen for the POP. After that I find it will come off fairly easy.

unfortunately not a lot of room to swing a BFH. I’m worried about breaking the middle part of the balancer off which would leave the hub stuck on the crank without anything to pull on.

Here is the removal tool that I used. Worked very well and very easily removed the balancer. It's shorter than many other types so well-suited for the narrow space in a Corvette.

Nice. That looks identical and should work very well. Make sure you also have the install tool.

***UPDATE***

I was able to pull the balancer off today using a Duralast puller from Autozone.

Nice. I have used that same tool as well to pull my balancer.

My thoughts too, except I try and hit the balancer with a drift and hammer. The shock from the hammer usually frees the balancer from the crankshaft.
