Had an issue with a message on the DIC on a 2008 Corvette base 6.2. Message was Engine Overheating as well as the engine fan came on and the check engine light was lit. This was right after I started the car after sitting all night. I did change plugs and wires the day before and am pretty sure I broke one of the wires that goes into the coolant temp sensor. I replaced the temp sensor as well as the wire and sensor plug. Put an OBDII scanner on and it showed the code was coolant temp sensor problem with the check engine light still lit. However, the message on the DIC is no longer there and the engine fan does not come on any longer. Checked the Ohms of the new sensor and it was within limits. Also, checked the continuity of the new wires and plug assembly and they are fine. When I try to erase the check engine light with the scanner, I get a message that basically says "Error. Unable to erase code. Put ignition in accessory mode and try again". When using the scanner, I always use it with the ignition in accessory mode. I assume plug, wire, and coolant temp sensor are now working but the issue is I cannot turn off the check engine light. The scanner I am using is not a real good one. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.
I can't be certain this will work for you or not, but easy and free, disconnect the battery, both ground and positive cables. Wait for a few minutes then touch both cables together for a few seconds. Of course the battery is totally disconnected. This will make all the computers re boot. You'll have to re index your windows, if you're not familiar, search it here, there's tons of information on it. Reconnect the battery properly and try that.
If the coolant fan is not working get underneath the car and check the cooling fan connector...it may be melted !!...what was the DTC you were seeing ??...and get a better scan tool...they are inexpensive these days.
Thanks for your response.
The cooling fan does work. The issue is that it came on when I started the car for the first time since it was not run for over a day. After replacing the coolant temp sensor and the wiring for it, the fan did not turn when the car was first started, and the engine was cold which is supposed to happen.
As for the scanner, I have a MaxiScan MS509. The main issue right now is even though everything appears fine as far as no messages on the DIC, no cooling fan running at startup on a cold engine and car runs fine. Only issue is check engine light is still on and I am unable to clear it with the scan tool I have.
Thanks again

With the AC on at startup the fan will operate however at low speed...so you are saying is that the DTC is cleared but the MIL is still illuminated ??...are there any other Powertrain DTC's present ??...one of my scan tools is the MS909 so you should be able to clear the DTC if still present...the 509 is not bidirectional so you can't turn the MIL on and off with the scan tool.
