No drilling of holes required. Just put it in the passenger side window like all the ricers do.

I still got busted for No Front Plate when I did that in my C5.

Yea well, we don't live in Germany.

Good attitude, maybe you can start a petition in your state for sticker plates?
Even better, petition to have the requirement for a front plate removed. more likely to happen, IMO.

Variation on the James Bond theme needed:

We need some aftermarket support to design and manufacture a plate mount that is hinged at the top and the hinge is mounted to the bottom side of the upper grill opening. When desired the plate & mount may be raised to the horizontal position so that only the top edge of the plate is visible as a line (perhaps a 3/8" thin, paintable, rounded, plastic leading edge would be at the top of the plate). The driver can flip a switch to raise and lower the plate as required (read: when pulled over by Mr. Law).

I don't think the existence of this device would be unlawful. Older station wagons used to have a similar, more primitive device that allowed the plate to be lowered when driving with the tailgate down - before litigious concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning influenced the discouragement of this practice.

Thanks Scissors, that's close. I guess a "utility hinge" is one with springs in it? He never says that, but it seems that would be the only way it would flatten at speed. It's a clever idea, but leaves the plate clearly visible in either position. I wonder if it would rattle at high speeds or continue to lay flat? In my proposal, the plate would remain horizontally flat against the upper surface of the opening by the mechanism at any speed. It should be nearly invisible until lowered. However, my idea would be more complicated and heavier.

You could just as easily use the exact same thing, but mount the plate upside down and, thus, mount the device upside down so that it would be under the chin when at speed.

You could also modify it to pull up or down with a motor and cord, but I don't know enough about electronics to figure out how to do that.

It won't look pretty thats for sure. Maybe GM will offer a body colored front plate frame that will attach under the front fascia, so there will be no visible drill holes. Just an idea. Still won't look great. I bet the aftermarket guys will come up something nice(and expensive) to make the front plate bearable to look at. Anyway I'm glad I don't have to worry about it, but it does look like an oversight by GM.

H&K Vette Accessories has a new design for a removable front license plate bracket which fits C6 Grand Sport and Z06 models only. It uses the center factory screw which mounts the splitter to the bumper fascia and two GM push pin retainers to hold it in place. Two 1/4 inch holes are match drilled through the bottom of the fascia behind the splitter (totally out of view) for the push pin retainers. The bracket is removed by only loosening the center screw and pulling out the retainers which takes about one minute. H&K, Thanks for the reference. I'm interested. In Va. we are required to run the front plate. My current plate is stick on, color matched frame and can be removed if I install your product.
