I know I am not the first to think it. Will the Navigation Unit in a C6 work in a C5? Anyone know for sure? Are the C6 NAV units available for purchase yet, as a replacement part? Any dealer parts guys out there reading this?
I can't speak for the C6 to C5 GPS Navigation conversion, but
I just picked up the Garmin 2610 GPS Nav system.
I LOVE it.
It was very easy to setup and simple to use.
It is extremetly easy to switch between vehicles.
The unit comes with a sand filled bean bag that is heavy with a grippy rubber bottom.
Believe it or not, you simple snap the GPS unit into the bean bag and it stays put on the dash extremely well.
I like to go sideways a lot so plan to purchase a vehicle specific L-shaped bracket from Panavise for both of my vehicles.
The bracket seemlessly attaches to your stock radio mounts between the side of the radio and the dash so there is ZERO drilling or signs it has been modded.
Once installed, I believe the GPS base will simply snap into the bracket for easy in and out use between vehicles.
I personally recommend the unit.
Hope this helps. :)
:iagree: I got one to but the beanbag holds to the dash in 2nd and up but not 1st. I used the fixed mount that also come with the 2610 and it's just perfect. The problem with getting the built in one is that in 4 to 5 years that NAV system will be so outdated that it will actually lower the value of the car. Just think 5 years ago there wasn't much about GPS can you imagine the next 5. I will stick with the portable one, best investment I ever had do to traveling a lot.
I suspect that the nav system will be the same as the one that's in the XLR, which is the same that's available in the Deville. I happen to have one of those. I've thought about trying to install one in the vette, but it seems that it's a little too tall to fit in the spot of the stereo. A little custom fabrication work would have to do be done to make it fit. The system is very similar to that which is offered in some Lexus models. As for the "3D" question, that's a little vague. You can change the perspective, meaning that you can look "straight down" on the car, or look from an angle, which lets you see further ahead. The system is made by Denso (if I'm not mistaken). There are a number of aftermarket nav systems out there that could be fitted to the vette. Almost any custom audio shop could install one for a cost of about 1200-2000 (for the system) plus a bunch for installation, depending on how nice you want it to look.
Hope not!!! The Infinity system is seriously lacking on street info compared to the system in our Escalade. I'll take the information instead of a "bird's eye" view.
