Default smogging problem

I was getting my new C6 smogged this afternoon ( I purchased out of state).
Technian said car computer was not communicating with smog testor and I have to take it to a dealer to have it checked out.
Is it possible that car is too new and software not yet compliant?
Is there another way to get car smogged so I can get car registered?

Get it smogged at a dealer.

I live in San Jose and had my car brought in from Montana. I had the same problem. The dealer had to do the smog. It is a technical issue between the smog stations and the DMV software.

by the way, you can forget about paying $30 for your smog. The dealer charges almost $200.

I called an 1-800 number that was for cars with smog problems. They gave me a place in Fremont that can tackle the problem...so they say.
Only 40 bucks. Made appointment for tomorrow. Will let you guys know how it goes.

I live near Sacramento and bought the car in Montana also. Courtesy delivered to N. Cal. I did the smog at a test only station I normally use. No problem at all.

Did you guys get your cars directly from the factory? Cars to Cali should have california emission and should not need to be smogged.

If the cars are from a dealer outside the State of California, they need to be smogged. I baught mine from Ohio and I had to smog it before registration. Local dealer charged $90 for the smog sevice.

Its things like this that make me lose my hair.

PS

Yep, that's the way it is. $49.00 at the test only station, and again, no problems. In and out in about 35 minutes total.

If your car was courtesy deliverd from the factory to a dealer in CA, you do not need to get it smogged. If you did, you're wasting your money.

I just got my C6. It was shipped from the Museum directly to me because we were unable to pick it up at the museum. As a result, it too needed to be smog checked even though it was ordered with California emmissions. I took it to my local Shell service station in Irvine. I had my previous C5 smogged here. They ran the test. The computer on the car would not communicate with the smog testing machine as you mentione din your post. The technician said it was not a problem and referred to a service bulletin dated November 18, 2004 that they had just received that said that there were known problems with the computer test on some of the 2005 models. He ran the rest of the emmissions test, did the visual and did the gas cap check. The car passed and a certificate was issued. BTW - the car tested way below the allowable levels of emmissions. Only has 28 miles on it.

Does your car's emmision nameplate shows compliance to federal and California or just federal?

I made sure to order the California emissions option. It doesn't make any difference to the DMV here. The paperwork shows purchased from out of state, then smog it buddy!! Next pay up the California sales tax.

Corvettes have been 50 state and California smog legal for some time now. The California DMV just has a rule that if the new car comes from out of state it must be smog tested. It doesn't matter what the sticker says on the car. Even though the DMV will check the sticker also.
