Default Check Fuel System Lite

Light came on today, gage shows empty (tank is at least half full). Any
ideas? I already disconnected and reconnected battery - didn't change.

I had exactly the same thing happen on my C6, with just 1100 miles on it. It was intermittent, and would do it at different times and different fuel levels. Was diagnosed by the dealer as a defective fuel sending unit. Dealer ordered a replacement, changed the part. Problem solved.

it is the type of fuel you are using not the equiptment. you need to look for "top tier gasoline" that has less sulfur. i had 3 C-5s and the only time i had a fuel gauge problem is when i bought gas on road trips and you never know what is in those tank no mater what it says on the pump

Default Fuel Gauge Problem

Don't know ANYTHING about this problem with the new C6's, but I had exactly the same problem with my C5. Had several dealers investigate the problem . . . none could come up with a reasonable solution. One suggested reprogramming the PCM . . . seemed to work for a while, then the problem recurred. One suggested the malfunctioning fuel quantity sender, but said that replacement would cost in excess of $500. I elected to live with the problem.
Had the same sort of problem with the tire pressure sensors. Had a continual error code with the right rear sensor . . . Rxxx. My local dealer (Horne Motors of Show Low, Arizona), maintained that they had insufficient information to attempt to fix the problem . . . in effect, nothing changed, and when I traded in the C5 for the C6 that I presently have on order, the problems were still extant. I have a feeling that these errors/problems continue with the GM product, and won't be corrected anytime soon!

Actually, the problem is quite common with other manufacturers. I have had the fuel sender replaced on my Wrangler due to the same symptoms.
Using a top tier supplier of fuel, might cure the problem; however, it cannot be a guarantee, since all fuel manufactures are allowed X-amount of sulfur in the fuel. Top tier do a better job of refining the sulfur out of the product.
The actual fix is not that expensive, do a better job of coating the contacts on the fuel sender(s) so that even a minimal amount of sulfur will not affect the contacts.
